Review: Pawalla Subscription Boxes

So, we have joined Pawalla, have you? Pet subscription services/boxes have totally been hitting the market lately. I feel like I read about a new monthly subscription box that's available everyday. So far, we've heard of Bark Box, Spoiled Rotten and a few others that escape me at this moment. However, I did want to take a minute to review this service that we have joined just last month. We were lucky enough to have come upon a deal on Fab that allowed us to obtain this service at a much cheaper rate. We actually received our first two boxes last month and why did it take so long for me to post up a review? Yes, I actually tried out a majority of these products before letting you know what we thought of this particular subscription. Interested? Then please keep reading below.

The Fab offer that we had purchased allowed up us to test out this subscription at a more affordable price. Yes, I purchased these boxes on my own and I am not being paid to review this. I have actually purchased several valid coupon codes during the deal and will be continuing to review this service for months to come. Please note that there are always coupons and other deal sites that offer great packages, so if you are interested in joining one, keep on the lookout!

Pawalla is a subscription service that sends out monthly surprise boxes full of goodies hand picked by their staff pet nutritionists. These boxes contain an assortment of organic or all natural snacks, treats, foods, wet foods and dog toys. On occasion they also include shampoos, supplements and other good stuff for your fur friends as well. They are available for both cats and dogs and come in two sizes, standard and mini. The standard box starts at $21 per box with free shipping. You can expect to receive 6-10 premium full sized products. The mini box starts at $12 per box with free shipping as well. In these smaller boxes, you can expect to receive 3-5 premium full sized products as well, but please note that no wet food will be included in these.

Since I have two fun, loving and adorable furbabies, I ordered 1 standard for large dogs and 1 mini for small dogs. Though I have specified the difference of size for my two pets, I received all of the same products regardless of their size. Please note that I have an 80 lb. rottweiler and an 18 lb. shiba inu, quite a size difference you may notice. I also emailed customer support to double check that there was error and it was confirmed 48 hours later that the boxes were correct. This is what we received in our April box (shown as March box on their website):

Standard Box
  • Canine Caviar Venison Trip - this box came with (2) 13 oz. cans of this wet dog food. Honestly, I haven't actually given these a try yet as I am reserving them as a special treat for my pups. We normally don't give them wet dog food as it makes their stool a little less firm than normal. These are $2.40 per can and $28.99 per case. Each case comes with 12 cans of food.
  • Natural Balance Healthy Bone Treats - these come in an 8 oz. bag and cost $3.99 per bag. They are turkey, cranberry and oatmeal flavored biscuits. They are crunchy in texture and a breeze to eat for both of my dogs. I don't think there was anything special about these, but my dogs did appreciate the new flavor of biscuits.
  • Pet Greens Semi Moist Dog Lil Treats - these little training treats came in a 6 oz. bag and in my pups most favorite flavor, roasted lamb (actually, I think they just like anything 'meaty'). They are available on the Pawalla website at $5.99 per bag. I have to say that these work really well as training treats. I can carry them in my pocket and the scent just drives my dogs crazy. They basically just hear the sound of the bag and listen to my every command. They could not be happier with this one.
  • Grizzly Wild Salmon Oil - came in a 4 oz. bottle and is available for $8.99 per bottle on their website. This is a great supplement/oil to add to your dogs kibble. It promotes healthy skin, coat, eyes and nervous system for our fur babies. My dogs don't have any problems with this, but its a great supplement for them to have anyway. I probably won't repurchase this, but am glad that I got to sample it in the least.
  • Pet Lou Monkey Stick - available on their website at $6.99 per plush. I would not repurchase this as it does state that it is suitable for puppies/small breeds. As you can tell, my rottweiler ripped this toy up in shreds within a matter of seconds. It was not the least bit durable and there was cotton and plastic everywhere.
  • Random Box of Homemade Dog Treats - we also received a box of "homemade" dog biscuits with this month's goodies. It was in a non labeled bone patterned box. I actually can't remember what flavor they are and I don't see them on the website either. There wasn't anything special about these. They were round in shape and crumbly in texture. Probably not something that I would purchase again.
Mini Box
  • Natural Balance Healthy Bone Treats
  • Pet Greens Semi Moist Dog Lil Treats
  • Pet Lou Monkey Stick
  • Fresh Dog Oatmeal Shampoo - this came in a sample sized container, but we haven't tried using it yet. It is available in a larger size for $18.99 on their website. I'm not sure we would purchase this as we already own an oatmeal shampoo from another brand.
So, as you can see, though I have specified the size difference for both of my pets, I have received 3 of the same items in both of the boxes. Furthermore, 3 out of the 6 items provided in the standard box for large dogs were also only suitable for puppies and small breeds. I was a little bit disappointed with this. I understand that treats used for small dogs can be used for large dogs as well, but I was expecting a little bit more variety. I did not know that the same items would be used for both sized boxes regardless of your pets size and weight. Had I had known this to begin with, I probably would not have purchased both sizes at the same time. Because I had purchased more than one coupon code during the Fab deal, I will continue to order these boxes in hopes that the future boxes will be better.

I do, however, commend Pawalla for using items only made in the U.S. With all of the controversy with items made overseas in China, this is one of the better options out there. I do like that these items are organic and all natural. Also, I would say that the pricing, with the deal that I had gotten is worth it. I do pay an additional $2.99 for shipping, but the total cost of the items received make it a little more worthwhile. At this point, I am not sure if I would repurchase at the original price, but I am willing to wait and see how future boxes are before making this decision. I do have high hopes for Pawalla though, so please don't let us down!  To purchase your own subscription to Pawalla, please visit: www.pawalla.com.
