Diamond Candles, Yay or Nay?!!

I don't know if I've mentioned this, but I purchased 3 new candles from a place that I've never tried before. I'm normally a Bath and Body Works or Yankee Candle Outlet kind of girl. Heck, I figured that they're just candles so why not check them out too.

This new place that I tried was actually online, so I wasn't able to smell the candles prior to purchase. Different, right? I had to go by the reviews on the website of what other consumers whom already have purchased this product have thought about that scent. I normally purchase fruity or clean smelling scents, so I didn't get too adventurous there. I actually came upon this link through a friend whom had posted it on Facebook as candles with a hidden diamond ring, who wouldn't want to check that out? There's a chance for you to win a diamond ringworth anywhere from $10 to $5000. Yes, I'm a sucker for mysteries and games so I had to buy one, two no actually three (haha!).

These candles are advertised as natural soy candles with a surprise ring in each. According to the jar, it is 21 oz and each candle costs $24.95 plus $5 shipping. With  each candle that you purchase, the shipping price does goes up, but not by $5 each. I actually purchased my candles separately because it came out cheaper this way with a $5 coupon for each purchase, saving on shipping every time. These $5 coupons can be found online via the internet and they currently have a 10% off coupon code on their website "SPRING" for all first time purchases as well.

I ordered these candles on February 7th and received all 3 packages on the 14th of February, a week later. Shipping and packaging on these candles were great. There definitely is no way that your candle can break in transit with the excellent packaging that they use. In regards to the scents, I purchased 1) lavender lemon, 2) orchid meadow and 3) strawberry bliss. They smell wonderfully delicious! I'd have to say my least favorite is strawberry bliss though. It's almost too sweet and smells like a giant strawberry good humor bar, what are those called again (strawberry blondies? I forgot..)? It basically smells good in small doses, but over a duration of consistent burning, I think it gets to be a little bit overwhelming.

Anyway, I have been consistently burning the lavender lemon candle, our favorite! By consistent burning, I mean burning for several hours after dinner every day. With so much usage, I'd have to say these candles are holding up really well. I'm not even halfway through my first! Also, because these are soy candles and not wax, they don't exactly harden like other normal candles do. They actually leave a goopy (sorry for my lack of words, I didn't know how else to explain it) and not smooth consistency after each usage, not very pretty!

Luckily after a few days of consistent burning, I was able to dig out the first ring in my purchase! To find your ring, you basically have to burn your candle until the golden sticker is revealed. You can see this sticker on the outside, but it takes a bit of burning before you can actually take the ring out. Each location differs on every candle as this one was relatively close to the top. All the others that I have also purchased are located somewhere closer towards the middle of the candle.

So as you can see in the image, the ring that I got was super cute! Unfortunately, it is not worth any of the higher amounts. After some research, I found that you can tell if you have a more expensive ring if it is 1) gold or 2) has something inscribed inside of the band telling you what it's made of. Mine, as far as I can tell is just silver with a really shiny cubic zirconia in it. Apparently on Facebook, there is a group/page that you can post on to sell or trade your rings. You can find that link here.

Overall, I think this was a very good purchase. Though they may be a little bit on the pricier side, the candles smell really good and last really long. They actually last longer than some of the larger candles I have purchased from Yankee Candle with the 3 wicks. I think its also a super cute idea with the surprise in the center as it makes the whole burning process a little more exciting. I would probably purchase again and would recommend this to any avid candle burners like myself. Have fun and good luck winning a special prize in yours!

To purchase your own candles, please visit www.diamondcandles.com. They currently have a 10% off discount (coupon code SPRING) going on with all first time purchases that is valid until March 30th, 2013.
